Why We Read The Bible
The Bible is God's Word, and we should study it. The Bible literally means "God-breathed" (2 Timothy 3:6). It is God's exact words to us. Philosophers have asked many questions, but God has the answer in Scripture. What is the purpose of life? From where did I come? Is there a life after death? How can I get to heaven? Is the world filled with evil? Why do I struggle to do good? These are not the only "big" questions. The Bible also offers practical advice such as: What should I look for when choosing a partner? How do I make my marriage successful? How can I be a friend? How do I become a good parent? How can I be a successful parent? What can I do to change? What is the most important thing in life? How can I live, so I don't regret my choices? How can I overcome the bad situations and unfair circumstances in my life?
The Bible is a reliable source of information that can be trusted, and it doesn't make mistakes. We should all read and study it. The Bible is different from other "holy" books because it gives moral instruction and says, "Trust me!" Instead, we can test it by looking at the many detailed prophecies it makes, the historical accounts it records, and the scientific facts that relate to it. The Bible is full of errors. Those who deny it are blind to the truth. Jesus once asked which one was easier: "Your sins have been forgiven you" or "Rise, get up and walk." Jesus proved that He could forgive sins (something that we can't see with our eyes) by healing the person with paralysis (something others around Him could check with their eyes). We are also assured that God's Word is truthful when it addresses spiritual areas we cannot see with our eyes. It shows itself to be true in places we can verify, such as scientific accuracy, historical accuracy, prophetic accuracy, and prophetic accuracy.
The Bible is a must-read and should be studied. God doesn't change, and humanity's nature doesn't change. It is just as relevant today as it was when it was first written. Technology may change, but the heart and wants of humanity do not. As we look through the pages of biblical history, we find that "there is nothing new under this sun," whether we're talking about individuals or groups (Ecclesiastes 1:19). While humanity continues to seek out love and satisfaction in all the wrong places, God--our gracious Creator--tells us what will bring us eternal joy. Jesus spoke of the Bible as His revealed Word. He said that man does not live solely on bread but must eat every word God speaks (Matthew 4:14). To put it another way, if we want life to be full and fulfilling, we must listen and heed God's written word.
Because there are so many false teachings, we should read and study The Bible. The Bible is the metric that allows us to distinguish truth from falsehood. It reveals the nature of God. Worshiping an idol or false god can give you a false impression of God. Worshiping something He is not worshiping. The Bible teaches us that the only way to heaven is by being good, baptized, or other means. God's word reveals how much God loves us (Romans 5, 6-8, John 3, 16). This is what draws us to Him in return (1 John 4:19).
The Bible gives us the tools to serve God (2 Timothy 3:17; Ephesians 6;17; Hebrews 4:12). It teaches us how to escape our sins and the ultimate consequences (2 Timothy 3:15). Meditation on God's Word will lead to success in life. God's word can help us identify sin and get rid of it (Psalms 119:9, 11, 119). It provides guidance and makes us wiser than our teachers (Psalms 32:8, 119.99; Proverbs 1:16). The Bible helps us avoid wasting years of life on things that don't matter or will not last (Matthew 7,24-27).
Studying the Bible allows us to see past the "bait" and the "hook" of sinful temptations. We can also learn from the mistakes of others rather than make them. While experience is a powerful teacher, it can be a very difficult teacher when it comes to learning from our sins. Learning from the mistakes of others is so much more beneficial. Many Bible characters can be used as role models, and some can also serve as positive or negative role models. David's defeat of Goliath teaches us that God is greater than anything we ask Him to face (1 Samuel 17). While Bathsheba's temptation to fall for adultery with Bathsheba shows us how terrible and long-lasting a moment of sinful pleasure can be (2 Samuel11).
The Bible is more than a book to be read. It's a book that can be used to study. It is like eating food and not chewing it, then spitting it out again. There is no nutritional value. The Bible is God's Word. It is binding, just like the laws of nature. It is possible to ignore it, but this can be detrimental to our health, as would the law of gravity. The importance of the Bible in our lives cannot be overemphasized enough. The Bible study can be likened to the process of mining for gold. We will not find much gold dust if we "sift through the rocks in a stream" and make very little effort. The more effort we put into it, the greater the reward.
